Omeprazole is a medicine used to decrease the amount of acid produced by the stomach.
Omeprazole is used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), heartburn, and other conditions caused by excess stomach acid.
Omeprazole is also used to promote healing of erosive esophagitis (damage to your esophagus caused by stomach acid).
Omeprazole is available as tablet/capsule.
This medicine works best if taken before eating.
Omeprazole (Prilosec, Losec) is used in toddlers and infants who have, GERD (acid reflux disease), esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus), or H pylori infection that causes ulcer-like symptoms.

Omeprazole Capsules
Do not crush, chew, or break tablets. The drug may not work if the tablet is crushed or chewed.
Swallow the pill whole. Take this medication for the entire length of time prescribed by your doctor.
Omeprazole in Liquid Form
Rather than swallowing capsules/tablets, you may choose to have your local pharmacy compound omeprazole in liquid form.
This form may be given through a G-tube, NG-tube, or J-tube. Flush the tube well.
Liquid compounded omeprazole must be refrigerated when storing.
