Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal fatigue affects millions of people in the U.S. and around the world in many ways and for many reasons.

Although fatigue is a universal symptom of low adrenal function, when patients complain of fatigue, many doctors don't consider pursuing an adrenal related diagnosis because it's so common in so many other medical conditions.

Do you have adrenal fatigue?

Do you experience any of the following symptoms...

  • tired for no reason

  • feeling run down and stressed

  • struggling to keep up with life's daily demands

  • not having fun anymore

  • having trouble getting up in the morning

  • crave salty or sweet snacks

  • need coffee or colas to keep you going

  • decreased sex drive

  • can't bounce back from stress or illness

Who suffers from fatigue?

Anyone can experience problems associated with adrenal stress.

For instance, a farmer, political leader, university student, or a mother with more than one child and little support all have factors in their lives that can lead to adrenal dysfunction, even though all these types of people have very different lifestyles.

Adrenal gland problems have cost people a myriad number of productive hours, sound business decisions, and creative ideas, not to mention good health and a long happy life.

Job may be a factor
It is certainly true that some jobs are harder on the adrenal glands than others.

Physicians on average die 10 years younger and have higher rates of alcoholism than the normal population.

Medical students typically go directly to medical school from an undergraduate program.

At the end of four years of study, they become residents in a specialized area of study, work between 80 and 110 hours a week, occasionally under a great amount of pressure from superior students.

Although this is a generalization and not true for every doctor, it is a description that fits many medical students.

Secretaries, middle executives, and teachers are professionals who typically suffer from "sandwich stress".

This is the kind of stress that comes from having to meet the demands and expectations from above and below without the power or authority to make the necessary changes or to do their job effectively.

People in this position have more adrenal health problems because the people in the middle are taking the blame for when things go wrong and don't usually get the credit they deserve when things go right.

Adrenal Fatigue

Ability to withstand stress varies

One type of person can withstand stress quite easily while another type of person can be overwhelmed.

It's important to understand that the onset and continuation of adrenal fatigue varies from each individual.

Stresses Add Up

No matter what their cause, repeated stresses make a person more prone to fatigue.

The effects of stresses are cumulative. For instance, you come down with a bronchial infection. The infection doesn't quite clear up and someone younger and newer than you gets the job promotion that you've been expecting to get.

Then, within a month you are injured in a car accident. Doctors are puzzled as to why it's taking you so long to recover from the accident.

The doctors don't recognize that there is a series of seemingly unrelated stressors that have gradually depleted your adrenal reserves.

Your adrenal glands have had to deal with each of these events. These separate events have compiled together building emotional and physical stress that your adrenal glands are forced to manage.
